Rolling Chassis

19 August, 2017

Hi Guys,

Ok the bike is now a rolling Chassis.

I need to get some new bolts for the frame and the swingarm linkages etc. as these are just held in by bolts that are too long and not the right size.

02 July, 2017

Its been a while folks.

Ok, the seat pod is very nearly finished, just needs some paint :-)

A very very big thank to Sean from Yorkshire Fibreglass who made me the seat pod, I spent weeks trying to have a go but just couldn't seem to get the hang of it,defeated I went to Sean who helped me out and did a great job.

More electrics

13 May, 2017

Bought a new regulator.

Bought a new speedo (cheap one for now)

Bought another headlamp as the previous one was too thin meaning that I would some spacers.

Also had a go at making my own steel seat and seat pod

Got the rear shock now rebuilt by Steve Jordan Motorcycles, brilliant job, very happy.

Rear Shock

15 December, 2016

The Gas canister is untouched and the Hydraulic ram part is complete and untouched but obviously out of the shock body.

undefined

Now painted the rear shock body and waiting for the spring to be powder coated.

undefined

Just need someone now to inspect/repair (although I think the shock was ok) and then to rebuild and gas up.

More stuff done

07 December, 2016

Hello All,

I have now had my wheels painted, unfortunately the front one is slightly buckled, I didn't notice this and I didn't think to check as the wheel had a tyre on it so I just wrongly assumed that it would ok.

This is the rear wheel

undefined

and this is the front wheel

undefined

I have had the front foot rests welded up as well, I needed to chop the right side one down so that the exhaust would run up behind this

undefined

and these are the solid engine mounts

Frame update

19 November, 2016

Got the cracks repaired on the frame now, these have been tig brazed.

There is a slight lump left over but this doesn't matter as it is underneath the headstock so you wont see it when painted and the bike is together.

undefined

undefined

Also got some new engine studs but not sure if they will do as they are just longer than the originals, does this make a difference?

Frame and Wheels

23 October, 2016

Got the frame and wheels back from the blasters tonight, found a crack in the head stock bracing so need to get that welded up.

Blasting

Got some parts back from blasting, I am going to keep these in my attic until the time comes to paint.

Blue Spot Calipers

07 October, 2016

It's been a long time since I updated this site, been busy riding my bikes, riding my pushbikes, camping and working.

Decided to start working on the bike again and decided to start with the Front brake calipers, as you know these are off a YZF1000R Thunderace and use the Blue spot type. These are solid calipers, IE they don't split.

The brake fluid link pipes are shot on these so I made my own using my home made jig :-)

PS The one on the left is home made, the one on the right is Yamaha Made

Engine studs and engine solid mounts

19 March, 2016

Ok, I have got the metal for the engine studs and also the metal for the solid mounts.

I started with this

undefined

Then I started to undercut the engine studs so that they would look like the existing ones only find that the steel I ordered 4140 grade is the right grade but just too hard for my lathe bits, I guess I should be using HSS or something like that cos they are now blunt as hell.

I wanted to undercut from the red line down to the other red line but this didn't work out too well so I might just get an HSS die 10x1.25 and cut the threads as is, IE leave the bar the diameter all the way down.

undefined

Then I decided to have a go at the solid engine mounts, I started on the top front one first but because the rock hard steel above has blunted my lathe tool this didn't turn as nice as I would have liked.

This one below took me about 45 mins to do, it was really hard to get the tool close enough to the shoulder without touching the actual lathe jaw. What I did wrong was to cut the piece to the right length first, I should have made it longer so that I could easily turn it without fear of catching the jaw.

Obviously this still needs a hole down the centre

Engine Locating Pins

13 March, 2016

When I dismantled the engine the locating pins were stuck in solid so I had to get mole grips on them and twist these out which resulted in damage to them, priced them up and these were something like £3.50 each - foook that!!!, I'll make my own.

These are the originals

undefined

And these are ones that I have made

undefined

These are various pictures of them in the engine and how the engine will look when built up, crankcases and head in black, barrels in silver, can't decide what colour to have casings yet as these still need to be blasted.
